Here It Is - Ecology Letters

I am very happy and excited to announce that one of our diatom images has been selected to be on the new cover of Ecology Letters, September 2012. The cover image was selected from a group of other candidates. It is a different colorway version of my Cretaceous Raptor image in blues, but is a really nice adaptation of colors well suited to the journal cover and format.

I have to thank Sophia Passy, PhD, Professor of Biology, from the University of Texas, Arlington, who initiated an inquiry to Dr. Hargraves about submitting an image for consideration to become a cover for the latest EL cover. After some correspondence, and my submission of the image, on July 9th, Dr. Passy sent me the following: "Great news--your fabulous image was selected for the journal cover! Congratulations-Ecology Letters is by far the #1 journal in Ecology and this is a great recognition for us and for diatoms, which do not get the spotlight very often!'

Activities, Donations, And Exhibits

December 2015 - A set of 100 diatom image cards was shipped to a collector in Connecticut.
March 2013- At the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, FL, a community open house was recently held which in part featured over a dozen colorized scanning electron micrographs originally taken by Dr. Paul Hargraves of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. The open house was attended by nearly 600 persons,
March 2013 - Applied and Environmental Microbiology. The image illustrates the subject of an accepted paper on the freshwater biofilm written by Sophia I. Passy, PhD and her co-writer, Chad A. Larson.
Nov. 9 2012, Dr. Hargraves gave presentation Microalgae, HABs, and 'the most diverse estuary in North America'
Oct. 20, 2012 - 'Plankton Artt' of ISSA now features a link to our Flickr images
July 9, Our Cretaceous Raptor #5 image was selected to be a cover for Ecology Letters.
June 22 - Sold another image at RedBubble.
June 20- One of our images has been selected to be a possible cover of the 'Ecology Journal'
May 5 - Sold one image from Portfolio. at RedBubble
September 14-18 - 21st North American Diatom Symposium, at the University of Montana’s Flathead Lake Biological Station, Polson, MT. We will be donating several prints for auction for this event.
July 13-16 - Phycological Society of America, Annual Meeting. Donated several prints to the Society for auction.
June 25-26 - The University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography Celebrating '50 Years of Discovery' and Keeping An Eye on the Ocean'..
April 18- Articles and photos appear in 'The Daily Mail' and 'Telegraph' located in the UK.
April 4 - Drexel University article uncovered about the ANSP exhibition.
March 9 - Article published in 'Enviromental Graffiti' about the colorized diatoms.
Jan. 14 - Have been named a featurer artist and also a featured diatom image on the RedBubble home page 'The Art of Life'
Nov. 1-5 - Donation to Intl. Conference on Harmful Algae , Crete. This is one of the major sources to sponsor the ISHHA travel awards, helping students to attend the conferences.
Oct 5th - Nat Geo Wild's -"Saved from the Spill", included two of our images as part of the program that aired on Tues, Oct 5th at 9pm
August 5 - Our exhibit - "A Many Colored Glass: Ethereal Images of Microscopic Marine Life' is on display thru Sunday, October 31, at the Academy Of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, PA.
Announcement! Am very excited for our collaboration. We/us will be exhibiting at the Academy of Natural Sciences(Philadelphia, PA) from August 7 to October 31. 24 Diatom/Dinoflagellate images will be shown.
ANDRILL (ANtarctic geological DRILLing) Program just received our permission to use 4 diatom/dino images for presentation purposes.

Dr. Paul Hargraves, an affiliated research professor at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, presented “The Life That Lives on Us" on March 10, to two audiences that day.
March issue of Vero Beach Magazine with article on the colorizations of diatoms and Dr. Hargraves studies.
